It has been great to see such a strong recovery today and to see us up at 6th on CMC trending, let's hope this momentum continues into the week ahead!
Now it’s time for another charity donation. This weeks choices are American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, Human Rights Campaign and Black Voters Matter
American Foundation for Suicide Prevention
Suicide is very sadly a daily occurrence that ruins families and is often a problem not raised enough in the modern world, this has resulted in a lack of public understanding to the reasons to suicide, which makes it harder to help someone feeling suicidal and point them in the correct direction for help. AFSP aims to increase the nationwide research into suicide, education and advocacy to take action against this leading cause of death. AFSP are dedicated to saving lives and bringing hope to those affected by suicide. AFSP creates a culture that’s smart about mental health by engaging in the following core strategies: Funding scientific research, Educating the public about mental health and suicide prevention, Advocating for public policies in mental health and suicide prevention and Supporting survivors of suicide loss and those affected by suicide
Human Rights Campaign
The HRC Foundation envisions a world where all LGBTQ+ people can participate fully in the systems that shape our daily lives. Through public education, research, and policy and practice change, the HRC Foundation’s impact can be felt in schools, on factory floors, corporate suites and in places of worship. It touches LGBTQ+ lives from childhood through end-of-life, people of all races, ethnicities, sexual orientations, gender identities, abilities and religious beliefs, in big cities and small towns, in the United States and across the globe. One of their biggest missions right now is to help pass the Equality Act through the senate which would result in non-discrimination protections for LGBTQ people across key areas of life, including employment, housing, credit, education, public spaces and services, federally funded programs, and jury service.
Black Voters Matter
In honour of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr day today, it only makes sense to have the option to vote for a charity that supports what he believed in and fought for. The main goal for Black Voters Matter is to increase power in our communities. Effective voting allows a community to determine its own destiny. They aim to achieve this by focussing their efforts into four areas, which are: Voter Registration/gotv (Increasing voter registration and turnout), Policy Advocacy (policies to expand voting rights/access, including expanded early voting, resisting voter ID, re-entry restoration of rights and strengthening the Voting Rights Act), Organizational Development/Training (We help development infrastructure where little/none exists. This includes staff training, candidate development and network development) and Independent Expenditures (Although not a major aspect of our operations, BVMF will on occasion fund activities related to specific elections).
